Documentary to promote NT to millions in China

A new documentary showcasing Northern Territory tourism hot spots and attractions has been broadcast in China. Filmed across the Northern Territory last year, the 'Catch the Sunset' documentary stars popular Chinese actress, model and television presenter Lily Ji.

The 'Catch the Sunset' documentary is being broadcast to a Chinese audience well in excess of 1 million Chinese television viewers per night, for a total of 12 nights, and will dramatically boost the profile of the NT as an appealing holiday destination and encourage more Chinese to follow in the footsteps of Lily Ji and  include the NT as part of the Australian holiday itinerary.

Tourism Australia briefing in Darwin

Don't forget Tourism Australia will hold an industry briefing in Darwin this Thursday 9 June at SKYCITY Darwin from 3.30pm to 5:30pm followed by networking drinks untill 7.00pm. The two hour update will provide an overview of Tourism Australia’s activity, latest market insights, business events activity and partnership opportunities.

New hologram tourism displays

The Northern Territory Government has launched two new  hologram tourism displays in Darwin and Alice Springs that promote the Territory's rich pioneer history and involvement in the creation of the Overland Telegraph Line. The hologram technology is the first of its kind used in Australia and is now available to visitors to the Alice Springs Telegraph Station and Lyons Cottage in Darwin.

Social superstars Do the NT

Social media superstars Sam and Sjana Earp are currently on a road trip through the Territory, in a bid to show their millions of followers how to Do the NT. The brother/sister duo have journeyed along the Explorers Way, from Darwin to Alice Springs and Uluru, showcasing some of the Northern Territory’s spectacular landmarks and experiences to the 18-35 year old age group. Barunga Festival set for Instameet

The colour and culture of this year’s Barunga Festival will be captured and spread worldwide as part of a Tourism NT #NTAustralia Instameet. Three local and national Instagrammers with a combined following of more than 60,000 followers will attend the Barunga Festival and help raise the profile of the event and surrounding Katherine region to a worldwide audience. $5 Million Accelerator grant projects

The first successful grant recipients in the Northern Territory Government's $5 Million Accelerator Round of the Tourism Infrastructure Development Fund have been announced. Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Adam Giles visited Arnhem Land recently to announce a number of grants for Outback Spirit that is expected to attract more tourists to the region and create jobs for locals and indigenous guides. More grant recipients will be announced soon.

Boost for Katherine businesses

The Katherine tourism industry has recieved a boost with appoximately $190,000 worth of grants awarded by the NT Government from the Tourism Infrastructure Development Fund. Visitors to the Lazy Lizard Caravan Park will now be able to cool off in new surroundings following upgrades completed to the swimming pool area thanks to funding received form the infrastructure program. Other businesses to benefit include Pine Creek Railway Resort, Urapunga Homestead, Marksie's Stockman's Camp, Spinway NT and Two-Wheel Dreaming.

Quench your thirst at Purple Mango

Visitors to the Purple Mango Cafe and Winery in Marrakai can now enjoy craft beers with a new micro brewery constructed with the support from the NT Government. A mango flavoured beer is part of the range available and is already a hit with locals and tourists alike. The new brewery was funded with the help of a $85,950 Tourism Infrastructure Development Fund grant with funding also provided to several other tourism business in the area to expand their tourism offerings.

Alice to dazzle during light festival

Alice Springs will host an exciting new event this year with Parrtyeme – a Festival in Light set to illuminate more than 2.5km of the MacDonnell Ranges from 23 September to 2 October. Using the latest technology to tell the world’s oldest stories, the new festival will feature a number of light installations that fuse contemporary and indigenous art and is expected to attract more visitors to the Centre. The Northern Territory Government has worked with Central Australian Aboriginal artists on the project as well as AGB Events, who are known for their work on Vivid Sydney.

Event planners 'Meet Darwin'

Darwin was placed firmly on the radar of key event planners when they visited the Top End from 19-22 May for the 'Meet Darwin' program, an annual collaboration between the NT Convention Bureau and Darwin Convention Centre designed to showcase Darwin as a leading business event destination. The Meet Darwin program is considered one of the most successful sales activities undertaken for business events in the Top End each year, resulting in bidding opportunities and conference wins.
